Expectant and Postpartum Moms
|
Hello all,
I am due in 3 months and starting to feel overwhelmed with all the (exciting but scary!) changes ahead. I was wondering if there was a weekly meeting for expectant moms out there? Thank you, Rosanne |
| I am not sure about prenatal support groups. But you should look into pacemoms.org and try to join a new moms support group for after you deliver. |
| Thank you! Yes, I will definitely join PACE...but I am really surprised that there's nothing out there for soon-to-be moms? I can't find a thing! |
| are you taking a childbirth preparation class? that is always a nice way to meet other pregnant moms. also i took prenatal yoga during my pregnancy and that was a great way to meet other moms too. not sure where you are located but willow street yoga in silver spring / takoma park is great. i agree it would be nice if there was more for pregnant moms. congrats on your babe! |

Yes, we are registered for a parenting class through the hospital, but I was looking for a more 'expectatant mom' focused group. Managing the 'worries/anxiety', etc.
Thank you for the response and insight! Rosanne |
| your question might be worth posting on the birth options alliance listserv. there are hundreds of moms on there and maybe some would have ideas! if you go to www.birthoptionsalliance.org and scroll down to where it mentions the yahoo group, you can join! |

There is a pregnant moms group that meets about monthly at the Duncan Library in Del Ray in Alexandria. I occasionally see posts about it on the local listserves. You might call the library to find the organizer.
Also, I suffered pretty severe anxiety and panic attacks as the birth of my DC approached. At the strong recommendation of my OB, I left work two weeks before my due date. DD was a few days late, so I had two weeks to really focus on finishing preparations and just resting. Even if she had come earlier though - it was helpful for me to have a final day at work that I probably would reach. The uncertainty of working down to delivery was one of the big stressors for me. In any event, it did me a world of good. If there's anyway you can do that - I highly recommend it. Good luck! |
| There is a perinatal support group that meets monthly, I think. This runs the gamut of prenatal and post-partum. But could be helpful depending how you are feeling about things. Best bet is to contact: lynne@lynnemcintyre.com She is one of the facilitators. Good luck. |

This is the Del Ray, Alexandria group that I mentioned earlier - that used to meet at the Duncan Library. The library hours were cut, so it's now going to meet at a local cafe.
BELLY TALK: Free monthly gathering & info swap for pregnant women. Every second Monday, 6:30 -8pm. They'll be meeting at St. Elmo's for the month of June. Questions? Call Jess: 703-946-3027 |
| There are a number of groups based on where you live where you might be able to find new moms. Moms on the Hill, Dupont Circle, U St., Etc. I have a small group of expectant parents mostly due in October and November, but we'd love to have you join. We don't meet every week, but we talk about what you're talking about. |

There is an incredible support group for expectant moms and moms on meetup. You (and everyone) should definitely check it out.
It's called MAMISTAD-NOVA First-time Pregnant Moms(SAHM&singleMoms too). The amazing organizer hooks you up with other Mamis who are due around the same time you are. There are tons of events and so many fantastic women. You can read about it and join it here: http://www.meetup.com/Mamistad/about/ |
| I agree with the previous post. MAMISTAD is a great group!!! |

Hi Ladies
I am due in December and am hoping to find other women due around the same time to share this experience with. I looked into all of the ideas posted above (thanks for everyone's tips!). I am really interested in the Mamistad group. I attended an intro meeting and now I just waiting for some more women due Dec/Jan to sign up
So if you would like to be a part of a group of women to share this incredible experience together, look into it.
