What is your reaction to the merger? Do you feel this is a good thing for BRYC and your boys team? Will you be looking for a new club for next season?

Top players will like the merger because it will ultimately improve the team. Take the best from BRYC and take the best from Vienna will result in a better team. The subs won't be happy and some will leave or will just not make the team next year.
I don't see how this hurts either club if your goal is to try and build a club that is at the top if its league.

Depends on how they do it. When VYS joined VDA, they still used VSA/PWSI fields and very few VYS players joined. It was almost like it was an in name only thing. Unless they fully commit this time, I'm not sure why the best VYS players would go to BRYC instead of other better nearby clubs.

It’s happening. I’ve heard this from coaches. Some kind of announcement could come as early as tomorrow.

Will bridge teams end up as collateral damage or not? I have no idea but could get interesting.

And how does the return of LB in the fall fit into this?

How does this benefit Vienna? I assume they will continue under the BRYC ECNL title. Any Vienna player can currently tryout for BRYC and play on their ECNL teams already.

I can see top VYS players going to bryc ecnl and moving bryc’s 2nd team to VYS’ ecnlr team instead of playing in NCSL.

Correct. If two clubs are partnering but their collective offerings don’t change, it doesn’t change anything for the betterment of the players, outside of the obvious benefit of more kids experiencing rush hour beltway traffic. It is a Club Director paycheck protection program. The “No Director Left Behind” program!

How does any merger help either party? It’s not done from a position of strength. One or both parties are struggling to survive on their own, so combining allows for economies of scale, elimination of duplicate efforts and positions, etc. If BRYC is having trouble attracting enough players to survive they need to find a solution. Maybe what Vienna gets out of it is that the surviving entity is called VYS and now they will have ECNL access.

Mergers do not occur without potential mutual benefit. What’s potentially different for VYS parents vs sending their kid over to BRYC today? (1) other VYS teammates/friends more likely to go together; (2) better prospects for BRYC as an ECNL destination for individual VYS parents looking at other ecnl options; and (3) practices in Vienna and Tyson’s vs Burke. Let’s see where they will play. Don’t underestimate it as a sweetener, even if they only split the practices between Burke and Vienna.
