The portion done by the general surgeon to simply remove the gap between the muscles can be covered if they deem it "medically necessary." However, no insurance considers the removal of the excess skin necessary (if they include that part, it's considered a tummy tuck). It SEEMS like it's a bit of an effort to get them to cover anything at all, but it's possible.
I have been recently diagnosed with diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation) that will not be corrected through exercise. It appears that my only solution at this point is surgery. Based on the research I've done, it looks like the actual muscle repair will be covered, but the rest of the repair will be considered cosmetic. (If anyone has had experience and knows differently, PLEASE let me know). So, I need a good surgeon. Does anyone have a recommendation? I've been told that it's possible that it all could be done by a plastic surgeon, and I've also been told that I'll have less insurance drama if I have a general surgeon do the actual muscle repair and that many GS work with plastic surgeons regularly to perform these procedures.
Any help that you all can provide would be greatly appreciated!
