I’m feeling really worried for my child and would appreciate any advice or insight, especially from anyone familiar with UF Honors or URSP decisions.
Last quarter, my child received a D (68.5%) in Statistics. It was a tough combination of senioritis, a difficult teacher, and the fact that math has always been a struggle for them. They earned a C for the first semester, which was the grade reported with their college applications when admitted to Honors. As you probably know, semester grades are based on the two quarter grades, and since the third quarter was a D, if they manage a C this quarter, the final semester grade stays a C. But if they get another D, it will drop to a D for the semester.
Unfortunately, the fourth quarter for seniors is very short, and while they are working incredibly hard now, there’s just not much time left. They’re genuinely doing everything they can, but they’re scared(and honestly, so am I) that it might not be enough to save their spot, not just at UF, but also in the Honors program and URSP.
What makes it even harder is that they’ve been on a strong upward trend for years. Aside from one C freshman year in Algebra 2 (which they raised to an A the next semester), and a few Bs, they have had mostly all As, including both semesters of Precalculus and IB Calculus. They have worked so hard to overcome their math struggles and deal with serious math/test anxiety. To see it potentially undone by one bad quarter at the very end is heartbreaking.
Has anyone had experience with UF rescinding admissions, specifically for Honors or URSP? How forgiving are they if the final semester isn’t perfect but the student has a strong overall record?
