If SportsEngine is linked to gotsoccer, and merit-based rankings reduce the need to accumulate gotsoccer points and therefore enter gotsoccer-sponsored tourneys, then bingo. If all that is true, then I seriously doubt they left rights to the algorithm with YSR employees, and I also bet they added a noncompete.

I suspect the best way to get something similar is look to ranking organizations for other youth sports.

It’s not interesting at all unless you are employed by a league. Not. At. All.

Reading this article, it really doesn't seem like a big deal and not sure why a youth soccer parent would care.

A typical youth soccer parent would not care. But parents of ECNL kids (I've had two) are focused on getting scholarships for their kids. That process involves recommendation letters from coaches and guidance through the recruiting process. When your coach and / or main point of contact was banned from NCAA recruitment because of violations, sorry...that matters. If it doesn't, it should. Actions have consequences. No "axe to grind" here. I don't have a kid in BRAVE, but know enough about the process to call a duck a duck. TERRIBLE decision to bring someone like that on board when starting a new club.

Incident was in 2009. Give me break and the person is coaching younger age groups
If you don't have a kid in BRAVE - go away. It's not your concern and you are clearly toxic to youth soccer jumping on a forum, creating the title to malign someone that supposedly has nothing to with you or your family. I have/had two in ECNL as well, this won't matter. You're reaching. You have an agenda. You are not a good person and I would suspect a shitty parent who models this act of retribution to a stranger in an online forum. Really, think about what you're doing. It's not a good look and frankly, cowardice.

I could not agree more. Let's take it from the top.

1. We don't know what happened.
2. Whatever happened, happened in 2009.
3. What allegedly happened would be potentially lawful today and is not unethical in any sense. You can say rules should never be broken. We will just agree to disagree when it comes to the NCAA, where the rules are cartel diktats by schools that have taken advantage of undercompensated labor pools for years to generate revenue and alumni contributions for years.
4. He would be a U14/U15 travel soccer coach. Exactly what would be the rulebreaking that would occur? How would it affect collegiate recruiting? What is that you imagine that he would be up to with his eighth-grade boys? He was a college coach FFS. What is the range of unethical things that travel soccer coaches can do?
5. Are you saying that college programs would see that an ex-D1 head coach mentored some candidates when they were 14, and not offer scholarships, despite the talent? Really? Why wouldn't they think it's great that a U14 kid had an ex-D1 coach to guide their development?
6. Have any of you soccer parents on the girls side ever followed men's college football or college basketball? Rules violations, especially minor ones, have not affected the ability of coaches to recruit or send players anywhere, and if you have ever been around any program of repute, you will know that any program and any coach in the country could be hauled in on an NCAA violation.

Stop it, please. Or name your club while you are at it, and we can welcome what others have heard and observed about the ethics of your coaching staff while we're at it.
I saw the reports. That activity should be lawful and is not remotely unethical. And you are wrong to assume that he is guilty of anything. This is America. You don't know what happened and do not pretend that you do because you have an axe to grind. Please remember we do not live anywhere that presumes guilt.
It’s a stupid rule. Clubs like it because it focuses their players on club play and reduces probability of injury outside club play. The violation of the rules is driven principally by player choice. It’s unfair to break the rules when other people either feel compelled to play ecnl to preserve ability to play lawfully or violate mls next rules that other mls next kids follow. If you don’t have a kid in either category, then you shouldn’t care. If you do, complain about the rule. If you are violating it, don’t pretend that is kosher to break rules that others are respecting. It is. But I must agree that ratting out kids is totally wrong.
I think a lot of people are missing the longer-term benefits of combination with VYS. I can only speak to boys side. VYS boys are much better at younger ages than BRYC. Over time, those players leave VYS for other top clubs in the area. If you have a closer credible pathway that will practice some of the time in Vienna and likely to include top teammates from Vienna, then those kids are more likely to stay with VYS/BRYC as they age. That may be worth three or four top players going out of Vienna who don't stay with VYS and would never go to BRYC under previous circumstances. You can also safely assume another 2-3 top kids on VYS boys would make BRYC ECNL. That is a major potential roster upgrade for any boys team.
Mergers do not occur without potential mutual benefit. What’s potentially different for VYS parents vs sending their kid over to BRYC today? (1) other VYS teammates/friends more likely to go together; (2) better prospects for BRYC as an ECNL destination for individual VYS parents looking at other ecnl options; and (3) practices in Vienna and Tyson’s vs Burke. Let’s see where they will play. Don’t underestimate it as a sweetener, even if they only split the practices between Burke and Vienna.
