Although I don’t love it, I feel the same. The kids will still be at a W school and my property value remains the same.
It’s a win for us.

This "W" school thing is such BS. I was at a non-W MCPS high school and I have a fantastic career and multiple gradate degrees. I have friends who went to "W" schools and are no more successful than I am, many less successful. Even the "worst" high school in Montgomery County is better than 99% of the schools around this country. People need to chill out. Your kids will be just fine at Crown. There are kids at RM and Rockville and Gaithersburg who will go on to be doctors, lawyer, and scientists. People need to get over themselves.
Exactly. Crown is a school that doesn’t need to be built. There are only 400-500 surplus for QO, RM and Gaithersburg. There are not enough students to support a brand new high school. MCPS fabricated data to build crown and ignored decade long requests to renovate Wootton. Wootton is really the victim here because of the political agenda behind MCPS and BOE.

You clearly have not noticed all the townhomes, apartments, and condos going up in the area immediately around the new Crown site. I believe there are several thousand total new homes projected to go up in the next couple of years, most of which are being actively built. On top of all the homes being built in the Travillah Rd area. There is absolutely a need for a new high school.
moving kentlands to gaithersburg wouldnt rebalance farms. literally everyone in the neighborhood would either move or go private.

Moving Kentlands/Lakelands to G'burg makes zero sense. The kids would be passing up three high schools (NW, QOHS, and Crown) that are closer to go to a high school across town. Every kid would need to be bused. And yes, many would probably move or go private. It would destroy that neighborhood's property values. Given that they are (supposedly) taking public feedback into account, my hunch is that this option was thrown out there for people to vote against, then MCPS could say that they tried to balance things demographically/socioeconomically and people voted against it. No way are they going to send Kentlands to G'burg.
No Dufief is closer to QO it should be QO and the homes on the side of 28 between 28 and Great Seneca should be Crown.

I grew up in DuFief and when they built QOHS (late 80s) we were supposed to switch to Wootton but there was such a fuss raised in the neighborhood that MCPS backed down. Back then, the directives for changing boundaries were less transparent. It totally makes sense to have DuFief go to QO or even Crown, both of which would be closer than trekking to Frost/Wootton.
RCES has two options going to QO, one option to Crown, one option to... GAITHERSBURG!

It seems like option 3 is the least likely option for several neighborhoods. Not only does it have kentlands/lakelands going over to Gaithersburg HS, but it also has neighborhoods near Lakelands and Ridgeview MS going over to Forest Oak MS, which would be an absurd distance to travel when there’s two closer middle schools. My assumption is they threw in option 3 as an attempt to diversify things, knowing it will get voted down into oblivion.
And DuFief area is nowhere near Wootton. Ridgeview or Lakelands Park and QO makes much more sense for DuFief.

When QOHS was built, the DuFief neighborhood was supposed to go there but people fought back so viciously that the proposal was dropped. It makes no sense for DuFief to go all the way over to Wootton when there’s multiple closer high schools now (Crown, QOHS and probably even Northwest).
