A couple other kids in our neighborhood are joining MD United so we would at least be able to carpool sometimes to practice. But you're right, those others are closer.

I'm with MD United and it's a great club. Considering how far passed tryouts it is, your DS likely wouldn't get placed on a top team, but I'd encourage you yo keep it on your radar for the longer term. The coaches are always open to having players join trainings, so maybe reach out and try to hop in a summer session? We never really stop practicing.

Depending on where in College Park you live, MD United practices wouldn't necessarily be 50 minutes away. Maybe 35. Indian Creek School is not far from exit 16 on rt 50 and there are practices also held at Liberty Sports Park not too far from exits 11 and 13 off 50.

Potomac and Bethesda, while great clubs, actually seem further away given traffic in the area.
These are super helpful responses. Thank you!
How did you all go about finding a private coach for soccer? When did you determine that it was time to start supplementing training sessions? And what are standard rates?
I've found Coppermine to be highly skilled and well coached. As PP noted their top top teams play up and their "second" teams DOMINATE top teams from other clubs. If they were closer to my house, I'd definitely have my DS tryout.
Pipeline teams are strong and they also place a lot of kids at D1 schools each year.
SAC has a lot of teams at the younger age groups, so I think your experience will depend on which team you land on. But kids don't stay on past U12 and disperse to other clubs.
Have you looked into Baltimore Union, Celtic, or Maryland United? Their top 2014 boy teams, are strong, but you may have a different experience if placed on one of the lower teams.

Just sharing that we had a very similar experience at the three tryouts for our son with 9U boys. By the end of Sunday, he was playing on the field with the returning players. (We know a returning player.)

We haven't heard anything either from Arlington, other than the email on Monday saying by EOW.

We actually got an offer this morning from another club, and I emailed Arlington this morning to ask when they'd send notifications. No response yet. (Our friend with the returning player hasn't gotten an offer yet either.)

Hopefully tomorrow?

So we got the girl's U9 email--- daughter didn't make it. Like I said above, she is only 6 and in kindergarten but for some reason the tryouts were open to those born in 2016. I thought she did so well....but we will continue with rec for now. She can't tryout for ADP b/c she doesn't make birthday cutoff. Still don't get why she was allowed travel tryout but not ADP.....gonna be a sad convo to have after school today

So sorry to hear that. But that is a great sign for next year's tryouts!

Aww thanks--- yeah she has plenty of time! I'm glad we had the experience this year to know what to expect for next year.

Some clubs let much younger kids register in order to advertise their club so that you can spread the word and when your child is of age you will come back.
