And patching is considered "old school" for the most part, and somewhat depending on the condition nowadays, (as is surgery) but is common as a treatment recommended by ophthalmologists.
SOOO... back to my original question does anyone know a good clinician for Adults with ASD/PDA in No. Va?
I understand your skepticism; however, it absolutely will if you're a parent or someone close to someone with the condition. It's not in the DSM because the process for a diagnosis to be accepted usually takes years, and this is fairly new. Your points are acknowledged throughout the information on PDA. The best two websites I've found are: https://www.pdasociety.org.uk and https://www.autismwestmidlands.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/PDA-1.pdf

If anyone needs a diagnostician , Dr. Donna Henderson at Stixrud and Associates is outstanding.
Contact Dr. Kraskin in DC. He's in charge of the DC Regulatory body for Developmental Optometrists. His evaluations are amazing. He has research you can read. He does his own vision therapy. He's not expensive and offers a variety of treatment schedules and prices. Developmental Optometrists are not "quacks". Ophthalmologists are medical doctors and likely not real happy that there are other vision experts out there. I'm an OT and work OD's all the time, plus my daughter has been to one who diagnosed issues after her concussion. Dr. Kraskin will often recommend an intensive period of OT prior to vision therapy for a variety of reasons, and will then determine next steps. Insurance coverage depends on the issue.
It appears that it was too early (i.e., not enough research to satisfy the DSM board, etc) to get it into DSM V. But if you go onto the PDA Society website, it's a real eye opener. There is SOO much information for parents, adults with PDA, professionals, all kinds of things. I just read the self-help section of the Adult page and it's eye opening. It will give you more patience, tolerance and understanding. For your son too.
HI everyone, my 20 yr. old stepson has been diagnosed with Autism (very high functioning=old "Aspberger's"), with the Pathological Demand Avoidance profile--a VERY difficult type to control/interact/live with. Are there any psychiatrists (need anti-anxiety meds) and psychotherapists you know of in Northern VA who may be experts in this area? Thank you!
