I'm 6 weeks along and my doc no longer does deliveries...so I'm on the hunt for an OB/hospital for my delivery. Prefer a woman OB and in terms of hospital, I know I definitely want a private room, no roomies for me hell no. But other than that I don't really know what to look for or how to choose. I'm touring Sibley and GW next week, don't have time to tour any others.

Any recommendations or things to look for in both an OB and hospital?

fwiw, if it makes a difference, i'm 32, first pregnancy (if that wasn't obvious already), and got pregnant on my 4th IUI cycle! Don't think I should have high-risk pregnancy from these factors, but you never know. So far the first ultrasound is normal.

Thanks! I found a video on Sibley's website but don't see anything like that on Georgetown's. If you happen to find Georgetown's let me know! I would attend their tour, but it's only on the weekends and I work weekends.

I must say, as an expecting parent, hospital websites are freaking confusing and do not convey clearly the necessary information. One exception is Inova Fairfax where they have a very clear set of powerpoint slides that walk you through the whole delivery experience and every detail about all the configurations and amenities. Maybe people don't usually look for this info because they just go where their OB delivers, but my doctor does not do deliveries any more so we are truly shopping around and information is very opaque.

Everyone has private rooms
My nurses were outstanding.
Special care nursery was a blessing.
Water was extra hot when I got to shower
The night nurse silently checked my BP without waking me the few hours of precious sleep I got.
Food was decent leaning toward good. Parking wasn’t 5 miles away or expensive.

Go on the tour.

I delivered at Georgetown. Food and parking are the only negative differences. Parking is close and was $8/day for patients. Not sure how that compares to Sibley but I guess it adds up after a few days? NICU is way better than the special care nursery.

I dunno I don’t get the hype about Sibley. It seemed far away.

Georgetown has shared rooms, old, shabby. NCIU is nicer than the nursery only if you need it. most people dont. Gtown and Sibley are within 2 miles of each other - is that far away?

Georgetown doesn’t have old shabby shared rooms. Where are you getting that from?

Yes can someone please confirm/deny if Georgetown has private rooms for *everyone* or if you have to pay for it? I've found conflicting information on different forums and even Georgetown's website does not say anything about private rooms. It just says there are 5 L&D rooms, but doesn't say if they are shared or private. And it doesn't mention anything about paying extra for a private room.

Also Sibley...their website is contradictory as well. On one page it states that rooms are private, but in another it states that you have to pay extra for a "Deluxe Maternity Suite". Can someone clarify?
