Is it a terrible idea to pay two deposits, just to buy some more time, since contracts are not binding until June? I know this is extending the wait time for folks on the waitlist, which is not a good thing. But I honestly don't now how are going to decide by the 14th.

Anyone else made this choice? How did it work out? Should we just make the call and be done with it?

We have two offers and two difficult decisions but our child will make the decision by the deadline. Paying two deposits is not only foolish but also counter productive for the school and possibly your child. If everyone who received two offers put down deposits and waited as long as they could to be so indiscisive then schools are not able to create the cohesive group of students for that grade. A lot of consideration went into placing your child, he/she is a piece of the puzzle that fills in their mosaic of a diverse student body on many levels (sports, academic, ethnicity, leadership abilities, personality, interest). A few of the reasons private schools are successful is that they chose who will make up a particular class opposed to a public school who has to work with the students they get. By your family holding onto your decision until the very last minute, you make it difficult for the school to find an adequate replacement for your son or daughter, therefore leaving the declining school to make a less desirable match to fill the void. Be considerate, write down the pros and cons of each, request another shadow but most important make your decision by the 14. If you have to ask if it's wrong then you know that it is.

Can anyone give an objective opinion on these two schools. I realize they are two very different schools. What I've heard so far about NCS is how competitive the girls and parents are. I don't mind competitiveness but it should be healthy. I would love to hear from 9th grade and up parents or students from both of these schools. Comments on commuting to NCS if you do not live in DC. Comments on whether the administrations of these two schools are supportive of the girls. Other schools including Stone Ridge have thriving Stem programs but NCS seems behind, thoughts?
