I gave birth to my first child in February and was lucky enough to have really great people supporting me. For those of you looking for a midwife, doula, postpartum doula or prenatal or postpartum massage therapist, I highly recommend all of the following:
Midwives
The Midwives of MedStar Washington Hospital Center:

I wanted as natural a childbirth as possible, and I wanted to have my baby in a hospital. I got both with the midwives at Washington Hospital Center. I felt confident that the midwives supported my birth plan and would not rush to make my labor go faster or to do a c-section. I would definitely seek care there again.
Doula
Elizabeth Oldham, Creating Your Calm Birth:

Liz was an amazing presence while I labored at home and when we were at the hospital. She knew when to give my husband and me space to do our thing and when to step in and offer assistance. During my labor, she helped with positions and pain management. At the hospital, she was an indispensable partner to my husband and me, helping us understand what was going on during some tense moments and what our choices were. She helped us make informed, confident decisions. The birth of our daughter was an unforgettable, emotional experience, and we're so glad to have had Liz with us. I can't recommend her enough.
Postpartum Doula
Nikki Wray:

Nikki has been so helpful to my husband and me and a pleasure to have in our home. I can't say enough positive things about her. From the time we met her, we felt comfortable with her. She quickly familiarized herself with our apartment and our needs. She is knowledgeable, responsible, organized, and knows when to offer an opinion and when to listen. She is able to help with breastfeeding, babywearing, infant development, general concerns about babies/parenting, and more. She is a great baby soother and also a great cook. She is self-sufficient and takes the initiative to do whatever needs to be done around the house (make the bed, pick up, wash dishes). I highly recommend her.
Massage Therapist
Johanna Brooks, OnsiteMassageDC:

Johanna specializes in prenatal and postpartum massage, and she comes to you! Before Johanna, I had never had a massage at home, and now I never want to have one anywhere else. After childbirth, my entire body was sore. Johanna gave me a wonderful postpartum massage that really helped with my recovery. She is a calm, relaxing presence with an amazing touch. I recommend her to all pregnant and postpartum women.
