Babysitter when traveling - use care.com?

Anonymous
We're traveling soon for a wedding out-of-state, and need a babysitter for the event itself. We made a care.com account and have been emailing folks through there to try to find someone. Any tips or recommendations to find someone safe/reliable through the site?

Or other avenues we should be trying? The couple who is getting married doesn't have kids and just recently moved to the area where the wedding is taking place, so they won't be helpful. We're staying in an airbnb so there's no hotel to call to ask for a recommendation.

I’m a nanny and have been hired thru care.com for babysitting jobs quite a few times. Make sure your candidates have great reviews and background checks. Then FaceTime interview them before you leave. Pay well over market price so they don’t flake on you.

What city are you going to? Maybe someone on here is available.

Reach out to a national agency like nannypoppinz. They frequently have nannies who are available for short times when their primary family is on vacation.

I would check with local agencies to see if they have a service.

Depends on the state tbh. I wouldn't do it in say, Alabama, because of vaccination rates etc. (And I'm from the rural South, before someone calls me elitist.)

But I have had great luck with care.com in the DC area and would probably use in NYC, SF, etc.

Reach out to an agency. We've used agencies in Spain, Ireland, North Carolina, and Wisconsin- all really positive experiences!

We used Urban Sitter in a similar situation.
