The Right Fit for GDS?

Anonymous
What type of girl is the "right fit" for Georgetown Day School?.

The kind who wonders why you asked this question in this way? Why assume there's one type of girl who fits and that, whatever that type is, it's a type of girl rather than a type of kid?

The right type of KID for GDS is one who is enthusiastic and excited about learning. (Says my GDS-loving DD).

It's not for girls who excel at both academics and athletics...they need some big help on sports for girls

What do you mean by girls that excell academically? Please clarify?. Thanks.

I would say the "right fit" is a kid who is independent and a self-starter, who enjoys digging in to figure something out, rather than one who depends on the teacher to connect the dots.

Totally agree. Not the best school for a bright kid who needs to be pushed to excel. Athletics are non-competitive (which can be a good thing for some kids -- it's an everybody plays approach that seems more oriented toward helping kids find physical activities they enjoy than anything else). Arts are diverse (e.g. drama from early grades) and ongoing (there's an arts requirement in HS so academics can't crowd them out), and facilities (dance, drama, studio) are great. The one exception is instrumental music (no orchestra, not a full band -- but good jazz ensembles, musicals). All in all, it's a school where creativity and passion (rather than competition and requirements) are what drive kids.
