If an unvaccinated student is at school and meets the criteria for being a “close contact,” (exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID when mask wasn’t on and they were less than 3-6ft), they have to pause while the health department does their contact tracing. The student cannot come to school. They’re not symptomatic.
When can the student return to school? What is required? |
Is this a serious question? This is one thing APS has been very clear about. It’s on their website, it’s been sent home via school talk and the superintendence weekly message. Not going to do the work for you. |
Hopefully APS will be moving to a "test to stay" model soon. We need to be prioritizing kids in school, especially those that are testing negative after a close contact. The WSJ wrote about it today: https://www.wsj.com/articles/schools-use-covid-19-tests-to-keep-students-out-of-quarantine-11631016000 |
Actually I’m not from Arlington. I’m from another county and first looked at their website. Didn’t see it. But hey, thanks for nothing. |
Paywall! 😞 |
Another country? Are you moving here? https://www.apsva.us/school-year-2021-22/health-safety-information/#tracing |
There's a number of articles on test to stay that are available via Google News. APS does need test to stay. We can't keep healthy kids out of school. |
DP. I can see using it for research. Surrounding counties (ahem, FCPS where I am) are actually doing worse than APS on close contacts. The ridiculousness of pausing vaccinated kids where I am comes to mind, plus no test out option to shorten quarantine. Or you can go "worse" with close contacts being allowed to stay in school with no testing, as in some other states. |
I would like to see test to stay but I think APS current policy is pretty reasonable. |
