My daughter plays for a small team, run by a great soccer coach with a roster smaller than 18 players. Her team isn't part of a huge club, the coach currently only has a handful of teams.
How can they recruit? say, if the team needs for defensive players? |
why not just go to rec games if theyre in the area there are always some hidden gems |
| Unless they are in a league players want to play in, they can’t. At least not away from other clubs |
In addition to scouting rec leagues, if it’s a league like NCSL they can have the league post a tryout opening in that section of the league website. |
In my experience recruiting is usually done by the players. The girls probably have friends from school who play the right positions. My daughters' teams always recruited this way, whether they were looking for permanent roster additions, or (more commonly) injury cover. |
| How old? |
| high school age. |
When? 20 years ago? |
Up until two years ago. I think this is still very common at most smaller clubs. I agree things wouldn't/don't work this way at the big name clubs - but that's not what is being described here. |

they can pull a player from 1 age group below for games if that's possible. Believe it or not, there are a few decent players playing rec / SFL even in high school age groups that can hang in lower level travel.
doesn't sound like the team is playing on an elite level with super high commitment so you really just need 1 or 2 more players to make it easier. |
