Infertility Support and Discussion

I had my transfer of 2 Grade 1, 8 cell "picture perfect" (doc's words) embyos on Wednesday. I mentioned this in the "so disappointed" thread. Anyway, how much activity is ok? I spent the day after transfer on the couch, with only 1 trip up and down for dinner. Yesterday I only took 3 trips up and down the stairs. Today I've taken 5 or 6 because I had to go out for my acupuncture appointment.
I'm taking baby aspirin and eating pineapple and right now minimizing my trips up and down my stairs and minimizing my activity in general. I'm not exersizing. I'm not really walking anywhere. I'm not even doing much cooking. I baked (pre transfer) some cakes and cookies for an event and I was told to make my husband bring them up from the freezer in the basement and to load them in the car and have someone else help me on the other end. On the one hand I want this to work so I am willing to do whatever it takes, but on the other hand worrying about every trip up and down my stairs seems silly. I live in a rowhouse and my bathroom is on the second floor. I also have to go up two/three flights of stairs to get to our garage where my car is. I made my husband take my car today and I drove his where I only had to deal with our front steps. How crazy have I become? |

I understand the worry but don't let it take over.
I have noticed different fertility docs have different opinions on what is allowable post transfer. I was at CFA, and I was told to go home and rest for 24 hours. After that I resumed normal activity minus strenuous exercise. But I still walked my labrador every day, took the Metro, etc. FWIW -I have a two year old from that transfer. |

Honestly, other than avoiding running or weight lifting, I would go back to normal activity at this point. I started walking to work about 4-5 days after my last transfer (1.2 miles each way) and going up and down the stairs in my row house as much as needed and my cycle worked. Good luck!!!!
What did your doctor suggest? Cornell does not emphasize cutting back on activity during the 2WW and they have some of the best stats in the country. |
| If you're at SGF, they recommend 24 hours of bedrest after your transfer and light/moderate activity after that. I tried to stay on the couch as much as possible for 24 hours after both of my transfers (first BFN, second BFP) and then resumed normal activity afterwards. Normal activity for me at that point included running errands, going on 2-3 mile walks a few times a week, yoga, going up and down stairs in a row house, going to work, etc. I tried to remind myself of all the people who don't even know they are pregnant for weeks and definitely didn't know when their embryos were implanting. Circumstances are a little different with IVF, of course, but confining yourself to bed for more than a day or so probably won't make much of a difference, at least in SGF's view. Best of luck to you. |
| I had two embryos transferred (one 5-cell and one 7-cell) on a Saturday. I spent the rest of the day on the couch, but did eat dinner at the table, and climb up and down stairs as normal. The next day, I resumed normal activity (including taking my 2-year-old to a pumpkin festival; with help, of course). And I went to work on Monday. I am currently 28 weeks pregnant with twins!! Take it easy, but no need to drastically alter things. Good luck! |
