What did you do for your aging dog who needed a nonslip surface?

Is there something better than a series of nonskid runners?

Our house has hardwoods with area rugs, and our dog is still fine on the rugs, but his back legs don't always work well on smooth surfaces. I've got nonskid strips on our stairs and area rugs in the places he tends to stand, but for getting from Point A to Point B, what? There are a lot of things on the internet I'd never heard of. Has anyone tried them, or are we all just passing runners around and buying new runners as needed?

We use large long thin yoga Matts from Costco. Got at least 5 on the floor around the house. Can easily move them around. It works for now and serves the purpose.

^ This. My elderly dog actually loves to sleep on the yoga mats, too.

I also have several of these rugs https://www.instagram.com/p/BT6_ycLh4Iw/ which are perfectly machine wash- and dry-able. Very absorbent as well as nonslip.

Yup, yoga mats. Cheap and effective.

My mom just put down cheap rugs everywhere. Yoga mats are a great idea though!

I bought my 12 year old dog shoes. Her back legs kept slipping on smooth surfaces. It was under $100 for all 4 shoes and worth it.

I bought my dog socks with little stickie grippy things on the bottom. Similar to what kids wear at trampoline parks. Only for his back legs, which are the ones that lose traction when standing.

I also have this great harness from Ruffwear so I can help my dog as needed when he gets stuck trying to stand up or is having trouble on stairs: https://www.rei.com/product/160684/ruffwear-flagline-harness

Large indoor/outdoor rugs. Overlap them if need be. Amazon has so many huge ones for such low prices
