How do you tell your kids that school are closed because of “religious holidays”……?
I find it silly because we don’t talk about other religions with my DS. I just don’t understand why |
Sounds like you need to start. |
WTAF. Wow.
"Other" religious holidays are silly? It's quite ignorant not to teach your children about the world. Guess what? LCPS is not a Christian school district. There are not "other" religions. |
Wait, what? You don’t discuss other religions at all – even in passing? That’s weird.
We are a completely non-religious home, but we don’t pretend religions don’t exist. |
Okay you are a troll trying to stir the pot on lcps
And fwiw they aren’t closed for Rosh Hashanah and I think they should be |
I would call troll, but the last few years have given ample evidence that this is probably a real post.

Why put “holidays” in quotes like they aren’t really holidays? They are a holiday even if you do not celebrate them. |
That is very odd. I'm a very active Christian and my 5yo DD knows about most of the different denominations, Judaism, Islam, and Buddhism just from talking about different countries and cultures and people we know. |
I don't understand why you don't talk about other religions and cultures with your kid, either. |
I've noticed some Christians have a high level of anxiety about their children leaving the church and don't want them exposed to any other religions or even ancient mythology. |
My kids go to FCPS but I work there. Simple explanation. Some districts decided to have holidays for other religions off this year so that’s why I’m off days in September and you are not. I’m not sure this will happen in future years but that’s the calendar this year. Do you always go into a big explanation every time they do or don’t have a day off of school? |
Any narrower, and your mind would just cease to exist, OP ![]() |
Fixed that. Let's put the quotations where they're really needed. |
So you want to turn the clock back to 1488, eh? |
NP - we're atheists and we talk about religion with our kids often. We just treat holidays as an opportunity to learn about something new cultural and score good food. |
