Are car prices higher now?

We are planning to sell our van now, it's in very good condition.

yes. used car prices are at all all time high.

Yes most definitely.

Almost 27% higher.

Due to the chip shortage/pandemic.

It IS a seller’s market now. 🤩

It’s only going to go up. I can’t begin to imagine how many cars are going to be totaled in the NYC area from this week’s flooding. So many people will need to buy cars now, while at the same time the chip shortage is getting worse.

It’s going to take a very long time for the market to get back to normal.

Is this the case for ALL used cars? . I am looking at a 2016 Ford C-Max and the price ($15k) seems reasonable for a plug in hybrid that has under 40k miles. But since I haven’t been in market for 10 years what do I know...

I was wondering the same thing. I’m sure there will be thousands of totaled cars in the NY area and people needing replacements. Dh has been making noise about replacing his 2013 Jetta. I’m hoping we can hold off for a couple of years until things settle down.

The cars no one wants are not higher. The C-Max is one of those

I just bought a used hybrid sedan and the price was in line with what was listed in my pre-pandemic consumer reports used car guide. Maybe it would have been discounted more if it was 2020? But it’s hard to say. At least I don’t *feel* like I got ripped off. But I’m not too concerned with resale since I plan to keep this for many years.

We just sold our Toyota Sienna 2015 with 34k miles and were able to recoup 75% of what we paid. We had quite a few dings and paint scratches. We went to Carmax.

Oh wow! Very nice.

Yes. Carfax estimated the sale value on my Jeep at more than I paid for it. Not selling.

I bought a Toyota Corolla SE new for 20,500 in late 2019. Have a dealership offer in hand to sell for 23k. A near 15% APPRECIATION for a used car in 2 years.
