Spin off to DH shoved me... have you ever filed for a restraining order?

If anyone is knowledgeable in this area, I have some questions...

1) What does it take to actually get a restraining order? Does just a "shove" with no bruises or actual injury suffice? What if he puts his hands around your neck and squeezes... just enough to make his point, but not enough to do any actual harm? If you called the police but there are not marks on you, isn't it a "he said, she said"? What does it really take? And maybe they'll ask the kids, but what if they didn't see it... And what if you want to file for the restraining order, but request that they leave your kids out of it?

2) Say you do get the restraining order. What if you own a house together 50/50? Does your DH just have to leave the house? For how long? Do they have to stay away from the kids too, or just you? How does this work.

3) Does abuse need to be physical for a restraining order? What if it's raging anger but not necessarily physical?
