| I have a few long floral (spring) skirts- they reach mid calf - are these out of fashion? (this length)- I was hoping ot wear it for business casual for work (work can be somewhat casual).. please help@ |
| Yep, out of fashion. |
| Out of fashion, give off an Old Lady vibe. |
| Ditto. |
|
could they be hemmed to kneed length? Just above or just below the knee is the most flattering on most people (thinnest part of the leg).
Try ironing the hem to the right length and taping it up to get an idea of whether or not it'd look OK at that length. If the proportions work, take it to a tailor. |
| Nooooooo! Not appropriate unless OP is in HS. Floral skirts scream 80's and look sweet and young. Not good if you are a professional. |
| OP here again- how about a black long skirt- any mid calf length ok?? Ack.. I have a few of these- so no long mid calg length skirts at all? thank you ladies! |
| It's only out of fashion if you care about what other people think. |
Well, if she's asking here, she obviously cares. Duh. |
| OP, how tall are you? How flared is the skirt? If you are shorter than 5'5" and carry your weight on your lower half, a longer skirt that is flared will make you look shorter and wider. If the longer skirt is fairly straight, tall black boots with it are your best bet which will elongate your body. |

OP here- the skirt is a-line or straight.. I'm under 5'5" - size 4, not heavy in hips.. I just saw a woman with her child with the "classier" type of floral skirt I have and she wasn't a teen..
The skirt's I'm referring to are from harold's.. similar to this pattern (same store) this skirt but a-line, mid calf, no flare (straight).. http://bayarea-shoppingspree.com/2008/05/13_black_white_skirt/black_white_skirt.php help? |
|
OP here- this skirt looks a lot like the ones i have- same fit/length/conservative pattern..

OP, an A-line is different than a straight skirt. Not sure from your notes which one you have.
Skirt lengths should be in proportion to your height (the taller you are, the longer the skirt) unless you create one long line of the same color. Sounds like if you are on the shorter side, this might wear you instead of you wearing it. I would pair it with tall black boots and wear in the fall if the material works. In either case, the longer the skirt, the higher the heels must be. |
| Just say no to the mid-calf floral skirts! When I moved to DC from NYC years ago that was the uniform of Washington women. The one from the bay area shopping spree website is nice though. |
