I do love my Tesla but the build quality issues are annoying and, more importantly, I have mobility issues that are making it harder for me to stay in my Model 3 (or any sedan for that matter). I’m not a fan of the Model X but love the look of the Audi e-tron SUV. We have a Tesla charger at home so would need to get the converter cable and I’ve been reading up on the on-the-road charging—we only do road trips 1-2 times a year and all on the east coast, so I tend to think it’ll be OK. But in all honesty it does make me a little nervous to exit the Tesla platform.
The 0-60 in 3.1 seconds will also be tough to give up.
Tesla/EV drivers, what do you think? Would you do it? Are you considering other EVs? Thoughts on electric SUVs? I’m starting to view the Rivian as almost mythical at this point, so not particularly keen on that as an “option.” |
| There's no better time to sell a Tesla than right now. The used car values are through the roof. |
| We'd do both, I guess. We charge the Tesla with a regular garage outlet. |
|
Hell no. We love our X and are planning on getting a 3 or a Y sometime in the next year, when our elderly Prius kicks the bucket.
Quality issues aside (which are minimal IME and a drop in the bucket compared to the benefits), the charging infrastructure alone is worth staying for. We don’t take that many road trips, but I want them to be smooth. |
| I don't get the love for Teslas - they are literally the only car that I've ever sat in as a passenger where it makes me nauseous and it doesn't matter who is driving. |
| Tesla sucks |

E-Tron's interior is great.
My main concern would be depreciation. Teslas have rather low depreciation curves (almost impossibly low), but the E-Tron drops like a rock in value. |

Check out Rivian R1S
https://rivian.com/r1s If you can wait 6-12 months and you're OK with $75K, it looks like an amazing vehicle. My buddy just placed his preorder last night and I am supremely jealous. |
Wow, that is interesting. I wonder if others have experienced this. I wonder what is causing that. |
And you're literally the only person I've ever seen this feedback from. None of our many passengers have complained about feeling nauseated; I've never felt nauseated as a passenger while DH drives. Given their popularity, I'm guessing it's not a common complaint. |
Get a minivan. Our 15+ year/180K miles Honda Odyssey can't be beat for space, support for older people to get on and off and peace of mind (I can find a gas station anywhere). We try to find a replacement every couple of years, test drive all the fancy new cars out there and realize we don't want to give it up. It is so much easier for older family members (80+) to get in and out of the van. |
PP here - I've only ridden as passenger in the Tesla 3, so can't speak to other Tesla models, but I know from discussions with others that I'm not the only one. |
I think it's the regenerative braking, not the rapid acceleration, that gets me. |
|
We have both.
Tesla has it's issues however Audi's are worse. Audi after two years things start breaking and they cost a ton. I would not trust an Audi after three years. Dump it. |
It is a VERY common complaint: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/nauseous-feeling.105237/ https://www.reddit.com/r/teslamotors/comments/caeyyo/model_3_car_sickness/ https://www.techradar.com/news/tech-companies-need-to-tackle-motion-sickness-and-fast https://www.quora.com/Does-Teslas-regenerative-braking-cause-motion-sickness https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/does-the-model-x-make-your-passengers-car-sick.76335/ https://www.dispatch.com/business/20180902/behind-wheel-of-tesla |
