Switching 4-5 year old program mid year

Anonymous
We moved over the summer and put 4 year old DS in a nursery program this month. We are renting, though, so we are currently house hunting. If we close on a house within a few months, do you think it’s important that DS finish the program here, or will it be ok to start completely new mid year somewhere else? I want him to feel comfortable and settled and also feel socially ready for K, which is coming August 2022.

It depends on your specific kid. When the pandemic started, our preschool aged kid had to stop school completely for half a year. Then the preschool re-opened, but they didn't have a spot for DD at her old location so offered her one at a different location. She went. Then they decided she was ready for kindergarten and offered to put her in their kindergarten class, which was in a THIRD location. We thought about it for two weeks and then moved her there. She thrived. She did almost 8 months of kinder, then last week she started her 2nd year of kindergarten at the school she'll be at through 12th grade.

She's barely blinked at all the changes. She's an easy-going kid who embraces new experiences.
