APS lunches at schools without full cafeterias

Anonymous
Our kids' school still has a cafeteria under construction, so they're doing boxed lunches. Can anyone report about what's actually in the lunches and if they have any choices? My kid is too young to tell me accurately!

Thanks in advance!

Check Nutrislice for the daily menu for your school. That meal is what's served. Once the cafeteria is done they should have the option to buy additional things a la carte if you've put money in My School Bucks.

Alas, for our school it just says “boxed lunch”.

This doesn’t work for the schools OP mentioned. Kitchens won’t be ready until Oct or Nov. OP, I haven’t been able to figure this out either.

I got a description from my first grader about something involving two cold waffles with something in the middle?

At our school even though the website lists 3 lunch options the kids were just handed bags to go eat outside. According to my 3rd grader they didn’t ask anyone what they wanted, just gave everyone a bag and sent them on their way. We will see what happens today.

Dear ATS, Escuela Key and Innovation Families,

We are writing you today to notify you that completion of the kitchens at the ATS, Escuela Key and Innovation buildings has been delayed until after the start of the school year. These delays are due to manufacturing and material delivery issues beyond the control of APS and our contractors.

The completion dates for each kitchen are dependent on a variety of factors, but we anticipate completion by late October or November.

We are committed to providing free, healthy and nutritious breakfasts and lunches for every student during this time. Breakfast and lunch will be delivered daily, and each school will have reach-in freezers, coolers, milk coolers and tables available for daily food service. Healthy meals will be available to students when school opens on Mon, Aug. 30 through the completion date in October or November. The cafeterias will remain open for student dining.

Additional information will be shared by Principals during their orientations and open houses.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are committed to ensuring all students receive healthy grab-and-go meals during this time. If you have any additional questions, contact Food Services at 703-228-6130.

Thank you for your understanding.
