Sell with carvana or trade in?

Anonymous
Looking to get rid of my Golf and get a bigger car- it’s a 2017 but Carvana is offering me slightly more than what I paid for which is nuts (and awesome)- is this route better than trading it in with the dealer I’d like to purchase my next car from? I always got the impression that dealers will low ball trade in offers but I’m not sure if that’s truly the case. Thanks.

Only way to know is ask the dealer. Maybe they'll offer you more or match to get you to purchase from them.

+1. Just ask. Although I agree carvana is often. We sold our used car with them precovid and were impressed how hassle free it was and at the price offered.

I’ve gotten great prices from Carmax. Sold two cars to them.

Just came on here because trying to sell car and got an amazingly good price with Carvana for our car and was just skeptical. But so far the process seems pretty easy. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly and their price offer stands. Has anyone experienced them lowering the price at the inspection for silly things? Just wondering if I go through this and then they lower the offer substantially and waste my time.

Same question as the poster above -- anyone have any experience?

Very smooth and hassle free process. Took about 15 minutes for the inspection, another 5 minutes to sign the paperwork, and a tow truck came for pickup later that day. You can choose paper check upon pickup or direct deposit for the quoted price.

Did you check Carvana? We just traded in our 2018 Prius and they offered us $2000 more than what I payed for it new in 2018. The process was really easy too. They came and picked up the car and barely looked it over.

Dealer offered me $100. Carmax offered $1000.

Yes with the first car we tried to sell to carvana lowered the offer upon inspection. The dealer gave us a lowball offer. The two cars that we have sold recently we received the best offer from car max.

What was the reason that they lowered the offer upon inspection? I would assume Carmax would have the same issue with your car but it sounds like it went smoother?

I have sold two cars to Carvana, never an issue. The guys who show up are moving fast, they did a quick once over - they are not like dealer trade in ppl trying to nickel and dime you. Would 100% sell to them again.

Carvana offers are good for a week or two.

Get the offer, print it out, bring it to the dealership.

Show them the offer, ask them to beat it, if they can't, have Carvana come pick it up.

Simple as that.
