I have a 10 day old. Not my first baby so I have an oversupply of about 10oz (maybe more if I tried) It’s pretty painful. I can’t seem to get baby to drink more, but I’d love it if I could!
What should I do? A- just leak and let supply regulate. This is what I’ve been doing but it means baby fills on one side and won’t take the other. Meaning more pain for me. B- pump the excess and know that baby will get bigger and want more soon C- pump a little bit before each feeding and just toss the watery milk D- get the baby to eat more (how?) |

Last 2 times i leaked all over hte place, remember leaking out into the sink, such a waste. In the last 2 days since being home, I have worn these in my bra all day/night when that breast isn't being used. Yesterday I collected 9 oz. Today 6 oz so far. No matter what you choose to do from your options above,I highly recommend this. You may not even need to pump that extra milk - it will just drain out naturally and your body won't be getting that message "make more milk" which you might get if you use an actual pump. hang in there. oversupply/painful engorgement are normal until your body evens out milk supply around 6 wks. |
Op here. Interesting! I have a big hakaa but haven’t ever seen these shells |
| Be careful with oversupply because your baby can fill up on foremilk which can cause all sorts problems. I had this with two children. |
Op here. Yes this is what I’m worried about! I’ve been doing block feeding to try to get it down (only feeding one side). |
| I used the shells when I was postpartum and they were amazing. I use the haaka silicone pump now when I'm nursing to get extra, but if you use the shells there is no suction (and therefore doesn't contribute to oversupply). they just sit in your bra and ... collect. highly recommend |

| I'd do A with hand expressing as necessary. Oversupply sucks and you want to try to get rid of it. When I had Oversupply my son pooped bright green. |

I have an 8 week old and have had an oversupply. I will get anywhere between 4-8 ounces depending on top of what he eats.
This is what I do - nurse on one side per feed and pump or use the Haakaa on the other. If he is still hungry, I will stop pumping and feed him from the other side. He usually eats from one breast only, but during growth spurts he will eat more. He gets a lot of the fat milk with the second breast since I was pumping. I will switch which breast I feed him each feed. - I mostly use the Haakaa because it’s easiest and I don’t need to pump every time. That’s only foremilk but I pump once a day for a full pump and I mix it all together. The lactation consultant told me to not dump it and that I can mix it with a full pump with hindmilk. - I do not use a milk saver because they tend to cause irritation. I feed every 2-3 hours during the day so it’s not a big deal. I plan to stop breastfeeding when I go back to work at 6 months so I pump to build up a freezer stash. It really depends if you’re home and how long you want to breastfeed. |
