We live in Bethesda, I like the public middle school we're zoned for, but I'm not sure our local high school is the right choice for my particular kid when he reaches that stage.
If I decided that I wanted him to attend a magnet program in another jurisdiction -- let's say Eleanor Roosevelt, School Without Walls, or the CAP program at Blair, would there be a way to apply while still having him finish at his current school? For example, could I move "in bounds" (e.g. to P.G. County, DC, or Silver Spring) and then pay tuition at his current school? I could see doing this for E.R. or Blair, but not for SWW because I'm not sure there's a "local" public school in DC I could afford and would choose for my child. Could I apply using someone else's address, and then move if we got in? (Note: I'd be in bounds before school year started). Could I apply and tell them I'd be moving if he got in? Alternately, if he decides he wants to go to Ellington, can we apply out of bounds, and then instead of paying tuition, move into the District before the first day of school? |
No one?
To be clear, I'm not asking about how to get my kid into Eleanor Roosevelt, or School Without Walls without paying DC/PG taxes. All I'm asking is whether they'd consider my child's application if he's not attending a school in their area (e.g. if we moved to PG county and were still paying tuition at his current school) or if there's a way to apply before moving, so we could move with the knowledge that he'd have a slot. |
