Moving to MD next year and completely overwhelmed

Hello, we are visiting DC/Maryland this weekend to check out neighborhoods. We will either live in Rockville or Bethesda.

Could you help me put together a short list of preschools in these areas? Could you recommend preschools with good reputations in these areas?

So far I plan to check out Manor Montessori. Thanks.

Ones I think you can still apply for, for the Fall 2010.

Rockville:

Rockville Community Nursery School

Christ Episcopal School

Children's Manor Montessori School

Are you Jewish? Check out Beth El Preschool, Washington Hebrew, JCC. Also, Bethesda Country Day School. Rockville is less expensive than Bethesda.

We will not be applying to preschools for this year. We will apply January 2011 for the 2011-2012 year. Sorry if my original post was vague.

We are not Jewish. We have lots of Jewish friends and do not mind Jewish schools if they are not religious. (I hope that makes sense.)

We plan to drive around and look at neighborhoods to get a feel for where we would want to live. Preschool for our son is important to us so I thought I'd see which preschools are in which neighborhoods.

You should definitely look at St. Andrews Episcopal, it's arguably the best preschool in the Potomac area, which is pretty close to Bethesda and Rockville.

If you want language immersion schools there's Communikids and the Caterpillar Preschool in Tenleytown, NW DC.

How old will your child be when starting preschool?

Are you interested in co-ops? (Parents in the classroom every few weeks.)

Are you interested in half- or full-day preschool?

These are my 3 favorites in the area. I'd do Green Acres if I could afford it, but Franklin's my favorite Montessori and Seneca Academy is my favorite play-based/progressive pick in my personal price range:

Franklin Montessori

Depending on where you live, Seneca Academy in Darnestown is great, but that may be too far (great if you are Northern part of Rockville though)

Green Acres, although it's pricey:

My son will be 3yo when he starts preschool.

I would prefer full day preschool 5 days a week.

Although technically in Silver Spring, Winchester School is really close to Rockville (less than 5 minute drive from my parents' Rockville address). They start at age 3, and are full day 5 days a week.

Bethesda Country Day School is completely flexible

We love Franklin Montessori but its on the western side of Rockville near Potomac and North Potomac. If you live in Bethesda or the eastern part of Rockville you may not want to drive as far out. I have heard good things about Manor Montessori as well.

I love the neghborhoods near Cabin John park near Seven Locks and Tuckerman or off Falls road but I'm not sure if this considered Rockville or Potomac.

Also check out Rock Spring Children's Center. It's full day and very conveniently located in North Bethesda, between Bethesda and Rockville.

Add St. James Children's School to the list (on Seven Locks in Potomac, close to Rockville).
