Fashionistas: What are the basic trends for Spring that Real People Can Wear?

Anonymous
I used to have time to follow the trends and read a magazine every so often. Not anymore, but desperately would like to start pulling myself together more (thinking my appearance may help my mental state....)

Just need some basic trend tips that a tall, thin, 40 year old can wear this spring/summer in DC without looking like an idiot or being uncomfortable. And please tell me hemlines are coming down...

Interested in trends for Tops, Pants (length, pant leg style), sandals, handbags, dress patterns/prints.

Thanks in advance.

Spring Fashion Trends for 2010
Lifestyles

We are about to enter the spring season of 2010. Even the spring fashion trends have already entered the spring season and hit some of us. Now it's another update time for your wardrobe to catch Spring Fashion Trends for 2010.

Spring season always has something for each fashion lover. Spring Fashion trends for 2010 include minimalism, high-voltage patterns, romanticism, sweet pastels, glamorous look, little wild look and soft-looking women's revealing sheers. I advise you to take your inspiration from these fashion trends when making your spring shopping list! Here is the list of 2010 springs fashion trends:

THE WORLD OF WHITE

This spring season you will often see variations of white. The use of the color white (especially white shirt dresses) will represent one of the main seasonal trends in sack-style shifts and shirt dresses and silk fabrics create a vogue women.

PRETTY PASTELS

Pastel colors should be second choice when you are shopping for the spring. The top 10 colors for women's fashion were announced by PANTONE at the Fashion Color Report Spring 2010. Turquoise, tomato purée, fusion coral, violet, tuscany, aurora, amparo blue, pink champagne, dried herb and eucalyptus will be favorite colors.

RIPPED JEANS ARE BACK

Did you really think that they'd never return? Ripped Jeans are back and they have started hitting the streets. Probably, your grandmom, mom or father won't approve. They may even offer to take you shopping for some new clothes when they see you in a pair of ripped jeans. But neither your family nor your friends can prevent ripped jeans from coming back.

This year you can still use it. So, this spring and summer are the season of RIPPED jeans, what’s not cool before is cool now. The good thing about ripped jeans is that you don’t have to be a stick figure to make this trend work. Anyone can wear this trend.

Tips: If you don't want to spend money on ripped jeans, you can cut up the old jeans in your wardrobe. You can cut it out as short pants and let the fringes from the cut hang. It's very easy to create more fashion style by adding rips and fringes.

GET COMFORTABLE IN RELAXED FIT PANTS

You can put your billowy harem pants in your wardrobe. You don't need to wear them even though they were seen around many of the spring fashion runways. Get comfortable this spring in relaxed ankle crop pants. 2010 Spring fashion features relaxed pants that are easy to wear. But, whether tapered or wide-legged, they should finish just above the ankle.

MORE GLAMOROUS LOOK

Pink is always the color that says feminine. This springtime we will see pink in every shade in cotton-candy to earrings, from bracelet to hand bags. Pink accessories will be almost everywhere. If you want to have a glamorous look, look for pink handbags and totes in glossy pink patent leather.

WHITE VS. YELLOW

Yellow will be most popular color during the springtime among the favorite colors of 2010. Even though white is the most prefered color for the springtime, yellow will often be seen everywhere.

Mimosa (the orange juice and champagne yellow) was named as the color of the year for 2009 by Pantone, but any shade of yellow is a good bet. You might not prefer to wear a bright yellow color though. In this case, I advise you to look for more subtle shades such as chartreuse or mustard.

THE WARRIOR TREND

Tribal trends and the military look of past years collide to become this fierce fashion trend. Ancient civilizations come to life in war paint, metal plating, chain-mail inspired detailing, tribal inspired motifs and leather tunics. If you want to have a wild look, try to be creative, be confident, wear it with conviction. You can mix some of the elements listed above in with more glamorous pieces.

FEMININE LOOK WITH RUFFLES

2010 spring fashion will make you more feminine. Dresses, handbags and lots of ruffles should be in your shopping list. Especially, ruffles will be big in spring 2010. However, we will find that ruffles are no longer considered stuffy or "overly girlie." Look for blouses with subtle references that help suits to "pop." (Choose the tiny accents that add a touch of exotic flair instead of ruffled hems. ) Shortly, choose overtly girlish elements and use Old World materials for more modern and feminine look.

JEWELRY

Do you have to spend all your money in your saving account to stay trendy? Although budgets are tight nowadays, it doesn't mean that you need to stop being fashion conscious.

As you know, jewelry is one of the best ways to stay current with today's fashion trends. Fashion trends don't only consist of clothes. Although jewelry is expensive, they are an important part of staying in line with trends. To get the most bang for your buck, you need to know that it's important that you know what the top trends and styles are going to be so you can choose right pieces that will update your style.

You can wear chandelier earrings this year. They bring with them an instantly feminine and glamorous look to any outfit that you wear them with. You can also wear them by pairing them with simple jeans, heels, and a T-Shirt.

A Turquoise jewelry as earrings, pendants, necklaces, rings and bracelets are the season's hottest trends. Blue is the most common and attractive shade in Turquoise.
