Good thing I hated the Highlander when I test drove it so I don’t care. Toyota’s have been a miss for a while now.

Yup. The chip shortage is awful and will grind a lot of things to a halt.

Ohhh that's a solid block of the lower-end of the car market too. Cars were already expensive - they're about to go through the roof.

Toyota is still at the top when it boils down to reliability.
They also are excellent examples of cars that tend to maintain their value.

It is the most trusted car brand (they go neck in neck with Honda) and are worth their weight in gold.

Toyota is behind on electric and pushing against EVs - https://www.thedrive.com/tech/41790/toyota-bet-against-against-electric-cars-now-its-stacking-the-deck-against-them. I would avoid anyway

I give Toyota the nod for reliability. Have had a couple Toyotas and both made 200k miles with only routine maintenance. Good, reliable cars.

Ugh. I’ve been holding out on buying a rav4 prime. My CRV still has a few years of life, but I really wanted a new car….

Totally agree. We really really wanted to like the new Highlander. On paper it fit all of our needs but we just…couldn’t. Who cares if it’s reliable if you just don’t like it?

I love our Highlander, and it is going strong 11 year in; but we will go electric with its replacement.

I agree. My Corolla is SO BORING, but it is now 16 years old and much more reliable than our 11 year old Mazda... which last has still had way fewer problems than my friends' newer, non-Japanese cars.
Both cars are cheap to maintain.

I greatly respect Japanese cars as a group. I've driven Hondas and Nissans that are good quality as well. My late FIL bought a Nissana decade ago that is now in my BIL's name and is driven by multiple grandkids as needed, and it still works like new!
