Albert Einstein HS in SS

Anonymous
Does anybody have a first hand experience with the school or live in the area? We are thinking of buying in MoCo close-in suburbs. It seems a much more affordable option than Bethesda or CC.

TIA.

OP here: didn't notice - this post was moved to the MD Public Schools forum yesterday. Please disregard.

Are you the same poster that posted in the MD Public Schools forum? If not...look there for recent discussion.

In my opinion, you can find just as affordable and nice houses in the neighborhoods that feed into Blair (Takoma Park, East Silver Spring, Woodmoor) which in general, has a better reputation than Einstein.

I don't have first-hand information on Einstein, but we just went through this real estate drill over the summer, looking in SS and Takoma Park, including the Woodmoor neighborhood mentioned. The homes in the Einstein vicinity of SS can be much less expensive than a comparable home in TKPK or close-in SS, but that area seems much less stable, value-wise. Look at a foreclosure map; whole neighborhoods of some parts of SS (admittedly, a big area) appear to be in foreclosure. While this may be good for the sales prices, your home will not rebound in value as quickly. Regarding the DCC cluster, while it is true you get some choice (the choice to list your top 3 preferences, anyway), you are still assigned a home-base school, in effect. If your home-based school is your first choice, you will get a spot. If your first choice is somewhere else, you *may* get a spot. Big difference. The magnet programs at Montgomery Blair are by application, as is admission to Richard Montgomery, an IB school with an excellent reputation. I don't know if Richard Montgomery is a home-base for some residents. Perhaps someone else can comment on that.

Richard Montgomery is not in the Downcounty Consortium and so is only available to DCC eighth graders who apply and are accepted. Within the DCC, the two IB schools are Einstein, and starting next year for juniors, Kennedy.
