Change my view: Biden’s sad old man schtick is a big act and he’s playing the Rs like a harmonica

Anonymous
As time goes on, I am increasingly believing that Joe Biden is a lot savvier than I ever gave him credit for. Every time the Republicans try to get a hit on him they underestimate him and overplay their hand. We are not used to this dynamic because it was the reverse during the Obama administration- we all thought Obama was smart and charismatic but in reality he was an out of touch technocrat and the Republicans played him constantly. But Biden’s political instincts seem better than Obama’s.

Take the Afghanistan debacle. While the Republicans are squawking Biden knows the news cycle is short and knows Americans want out.

I’m actually surprised that I came to this conclusion.

I am kind of inclined to agree.

I don't think it is a schtick.

He is well past his prime but has always had good political instincts.

I think he is genuine in his demeanor.

He's been in the Senate for 50 years. The MAGA-nuts have no earthly idea what they're tangling with. Which is exactly why he won the 2020 election with less than 10% of the appearances fatso did.

I mean, he's an excellent debater and an above average campaigner.

Obama had serious doubts about him and Gates famously indicated he's been wrong on every major national security issue over the past decades.

He's sort of weird and dumb-seeming, as measured by academic success. He could literally be replaced by virtually any other mainstream Dem politicians and few would care or notice a difference. So big deal.

But on this issue, he's absolutely right that we need to follow through on getting out. But the execution was botched, per near-unanimous agreement of media elites. The GOP is a lost, lame excuse for a party.

But....but... Trump...

Squirrel....

I agree, I am extremely concerned about his mental capacity, his inability to speak coherently without a teleprompter and respond quickly in official, unscripted negotiations.

I was thinking more like CNN and the NY Times. They lean neoliberal.

Well, you're a partisan so why would I care what you think?

The flip side to the argument is that he's playing fire with astounding spending levels and serious inflation/stagflation threats. He has a weak and ineffectual VP who will never have any kind of authority and who will be easily steamrolled by whoever the Republicans nominate in 2024. The House is increasingly lost to the Democrats in 2022, the question is how bad of a loss it is. The border illegal immigration situation is a legitimate and genuine crisis and the administration seems to have no handle on it nor any plan. And that was before the Afghanistan withdrawal disaster.

Tell me, please, how he is playing the Rs like a harmonica?

Half the country thinks Biden is an ineffectual old fool with significant and increasing mental decline and well above his capabilities and is only propped up by yes men and a 99% liberal media that deliberately looks the other way. The other half of the country is only glad he isn't Donald Trump.

That's it in a nutshell.

NP. Yeah, I am a partisan. “Independents” and “moderates” and “centrists” are apathetic and stand for nothing.

She held her own pretty well in the VP debates while your man had a fly on his dead head. In addition to being a former Attorney General and U.S. Senator. You're just frustration you don't have anyone to run as qualified and if you do - Trump will come out guns blazing to kill off any frenemies getting close to 'his' office.

As for the 2022 midterms don't make me laugh. As I recall you idiots were quite sure of your takeover in the House, Senate, and Presidency in 2020. You lost them all.

He’s an old fool. Even older and more foolish than when he was VP.

The Biden Administration is the end of Trickle down economics (loved it when he called out that crap) as well as American nation-building. We can't even keep our democracy, how could we ever think we could "build" another nation? The pull-out was exactly what anyone with any knowledge of the area thought it would be. Friends of mine at State said this 6 months after we got in.

Anyone saying they could have done better is fooling themselves. Maybe a little smoother w/ tinkering around the edges but not much more.

Biden is really a masterful politician. Now if he would tackle Voting Rights.

A 9-person element of Air Force enlisted logistics personnel would’ve handled it better.
