I'm an aspiring teacher who is trying to gain "classroom" experience (volunteer) before starting grad school next year. I have a day job so I'm trying to find a school in DC/NoVa that either has class or special sessions or something that meet on evenings and weekends. I hope to become a middle school English teacher so I'd love to do some volunteering with students in grades 4-12. Any tips, ideas, and suggestions are greatly appreciated! |
I just saw this ad on Craigslist for a Saturday Academy run by a charter school. They are recruiting experienced teachers (ten years!) and paying fairly decent wages, so I expect the teachers will be worth observing. It woudln't be a typical classroom experience and would be primarily remedial, but I bet if they let you come observe you would learn a great deal!

PS GOOD LUCK! I'm an experienced teacher and can say without a doubt going in and observing good teachers is the best possible preparatoin for graduate school and of course teaching. Get as much time in as you possibly can. |
