Having IUI tomorrow and want to delay the start of my period afterwards for 10 days

Anonymous
I do not take the pill. I am scheduled to start my period around April 15th. Ideally, I'd like it to start April 25th time frame. I have heard of a drug called norethisterone that might do the trick, but was wondering what my other alternatives are.

More background: I am having an IUI tomorrow and will be on progesterone for the days after. Husband is travelling when our next IUI is supposed to happen so I need to alter the schedule.

Would NOT take any drugs the RE does not recommend. And hey, maybe this IUI will be success!

Why can't you take the pill for 10 days? I normally don't take it because I don't respond well (become crazy lady), but I did it a number of times for two weeks to prep for IVFs and managed just fine.

When would I start taking the pill? If i take it when my period starts on April 15 and then stop it after 10 days, will I get a new period...and would I be able to proceed with starting a new IUI cycle? i'd hate to take the pill before my period starts on the remote chance I might be pregnant.

how about some positive thinking OP! You may be pregnant at which point you wouldn't need to worry about the next cycle. I'm so confused by this post.

OP here - I guess I should think positive, but I am 43 so trying not to get my hopes up. My RE gave me an idea of when the April IUI would happen and my DH will be away during that time and I really don't want to skip a month!

Yes, you start the pill after your period starts and you've taken your beta to be sure you aren't pregnant. You may be able to wait until day 2 or 3 of your cycle. And yes, I think you'd have to wait for your period to come again after you stopped taking the pill. Call your nurse - she may have a better idea of how it could work.

I think if you just keep taking the progesteron after you get a negative that will delay your period for a while. Ask the RE.

I hope this is moot!!
