Minivan with rear entertainment - can I install it aftermarket?

Anonymous
We are shopping for our first minivan (used). I don’t think that rear entertainment system would be used much, but kids and DH love it. Don’t like how it limits our options. Can we get that installed after market or does that not really work? Thanks

I have the top Odyssey and don’t use it at all. Why would I? Passing out iPads is so easy. And everyone can have exactly what they want downloaded. My youngest two are rear facing too so they can’t even see.

I don’t understand why people pay for these. Get the kids tablets and extend the scope of use for the screens. Our kids take their iPads.

OP here. What does extend the scope of use mean?
Also, don’t iPads require wifi?

Why would an iPad require WiFi? You can download from Netflix or Disney plus

Mine came with it but I wouldn’t get it separately. iPads work better

Here’s an ancillary point to consider: on our van we did not get Nav or entertainment. Didn’t realize that without one of them (probably Nav) there would be no voice control for the touchscreen radio, a potential issue if one has any contemplation of ever making anything other than a volume adjustment while driving. Maybe not specific to your concern but something to look out for.

We had one in our minivan like..... 15 years ago. What is the purpose now? Kids have handheld devises. They can just watch movies on their iphones or ipads.

Just get an iPad. Makes more sense and cheaper.

And no fighting over what to watch

We loved ours when our kids were small. They were girls and watched all the same movies and shows. Also really helped with carsickness.

Now they are tweens/teens and it’s time to get a new car I no longer need to the rear DVD. But it was really nice not needing to download shows on multiple screens, worry about charging, or making them wear headphones when they were younger.
