Nanny off the books - can it be found out during naturalization process?

Anonymous
I am applying for US citizenship - currently going through the naturalization process.

Our nanny is off the books. She prefers is that way.

Is there a big risk that this can be a problem for me during the immigration process?

Who cares what she prefers? It’s illegal.

I’m surprised you are taking the risk. Anyone who knows about this arrangement could contact the IRS.

Who cares what her preference is. Our policy is you are on the books or you aren’t hired. No exceptions. I can’t believe you are foolish enough in your situation to be paying an off the books nanny.

No, not really. I was illegal myself and worked illegally before becoming a citizen. Anyone in immigration services could see that I must have been a student for very long time.

Talk to an immigration lawyer.

Yes, it is a big risk.

If the IRS finds out, you'll be in trouble. Do you really want to mess with that and possibly mess up your naturalization?

They really have better things to do than track down your off-the-books nanny
