Can anyone recommend a good guide to kid friendly restaurants in the DC area? My husband and I are trying to introduce our 7 m.o. to the world of restaurant dining (the experience more than the cuisine right now), and are hoping to find more selection than a local burger joint. Are there any good websites? In know WaPo has a kid-friendly search engine - anything else? |
It's only a slight step up from a burger joint -- you order at the counter and it's very casual -- but Surfside on Wisconsin in Glover Park is very kid friendly. |
Surfside is a great choice, so is Cafe Deluxe. |
Lauriol Plaza in Dupont Circle. |
Cheesecake Factory in Tenleytown. |
Yosaku on Connecticut Ave. |
Cactus Cantina, Cafe Deluxe, and Two Amys (all near the Cathedral)
Commissary on P St. across from Whole Foods We have a 3 month old and have been going out to restaurants once or twice a week since he was about 3 weeks. Sometimes for lunch, sometimes for dinner. When we go for dinner we usually go early - around 5/5:30. Earlier times seem to be more popular for families with young children. It works out well for us since he is usually ready for bed between 7 - 8 anyway. I guess my point is I think most casual restaurants are pretty baby friendly, especially if you are going early. |
two amy's. anything mexican (except rosa mexicano). |
Fajita Coast in Silver Spring |
Here's a list:

Austin Grill - very Kid Friendly and fairly healthy (you can get things like black beans, guac, flour tortilla, rice) and they have really simple kid's menu items, and when your child is older, crayons/coloring. |
If you're in Northern VA, we love Joe's Pizza and Dogfish head. Very laid back and family-friendly. The first restaurant we ever took DD to was Koi Koi sushi in Falls Church. They were extremely accommodating and sweet and a waitress sent the entire meal playing peek-a-boo with DD, which distracted DD and allowed us to enjoy our meal. ![]() |
In Bethesda,
Guapo's, Benihana, Pines of Rome, Clyde's |
My husband and I ate at Ella's pizza near Chinatown last night, and noticed tons of families with kids, including lots of tourists I think. |
We like Commonwealth and Pete's Apizza in Columbia Heights. |
