| Hello- planning to relate cate to dc for 1 year for work next school year and hoping to enroll a 3rd grader and pk4 kid in public school. What would be some good districts to relocate to for a young family looking to experience the city? Exact location of work in dc tbd- so welcome all suggestions. |
| Next school year like in 3 weeks or in Fall 2022? |
| Pk4 will be a little tight to get a spot post lottery in most of the sought after schools. What month are you moving here? |
| Takoma Education Campus. Early Action, so your pre-k kid has a guarantee spot, and good enough for middle elementary for a year. Assuming it’s a year from now and not in 2 weeks… If it’s this year it’s likely your kids will have to be in different schools. |

If it's this year, there are 2 main options:
move to the school zone you want your 3rd grader to be in and get on the pk4 wait list. You probably won't get in to most of them at this point so you'll be looking at private preK, maybe a charter or an out of bounds DCPS but probably not close by. look at myschooldc for schools with PK short wait lists and start applying. if you move in bounds for that school your 3rd grader will have the right to go. These will not be the highest scoring schools but could be fine for a year. if you're talking about 2022-3, you have a lot more flexibility. I'd look at Thomson, Seaton, Garrison, Cleveland (single language unless your kids already know Spanish), Hyde-Addison, and School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens if you want to be more central. Amidon-Bowen, Van Ness, JO Wilson, Ludlow-Taylor are possibilities in Southwest/Navy Yard/Capitol Hill. These are not the hardest schools at which to get a PK4 spot but sort of split the difference between ease of getting a spot and having decent test scores and being near metro. You could also look at Upper NW--good test scores and they have the advantage (for you) of starting at PK4 so all the kids with siblings are in the same boat, rather than having most of the class filled with kids who got in at PK3. But you're not guaranteed a spot at any of these. |
| Your budget and housing requirements would be helpful in helping narrow things down. Without that info, Ross would be a fun school for a year. |
| I might consider renting in North Arlington or downtown Bethesda, utilize their public schools, and take the short subway ride to your work location. Still urban. |

Wait, top of the list is Chevy Chase (Maryland side, not DC side)!!
Bumping my recs for N. Arlington or downtown Bethesda to 2nd place |
| Yes next year 2022! |
| Thank you!! Yes, we can rent a 2br and we are lucky to get housing funds for this. We saw some rents up to 3-4K/mo and we could do that. We would likely be renting from afar. We like the idea of being in the city and near metro but don’t know neighborhoods well enough to know if they are good for kids. Thanks so much!!! |
| Georgetown Hyde-Addison could be a nice central option. I have heard Ross is a really nice school too. Ross would be close to the Metro, but it is a tiny boundary. I like the city for kids. There are lots of nice parks and many activities. |

I would look at living in Bloomingdale. Very fun and family-friendly neighborhood. You can send your 3rd grader to Seaton and your PK4 will likely get in too with sibling preference. If not, your PK4 can go to Langley. Look at Garrison as well. I would not do Cleveland.
If you want a single family house, maybe Whittier. |

Is PK4 essential to you? The problem is, many schools here are good for lower elementary but less good for upper. But the schools with good upper elementary are so in demand, your PK4 might not get in even as a sibling.
I would check out Ludlow-Taylor and Seaton. It is easy to get into Seaton even if you don't live in the boundary, and the location is great for metro. If you want a charter I would check out Inspired Teaching. Lee if you're into Montessori. Cap City is good too. |
| My friends are renting their row house walking distance to Langley. It should be easy to get in, and it’s a great school that’s improved a lot in recent years. https://www.nomadicrealestate.com/rental/171-uhland-ter-ne/ |
Preschool at Langley is delightful and it's probably fine for 3rd unless your child is very advanced. It is definitely on the upswing and I can't say enough good things about the neighborhood. We love living here! |
