Beauvoir Lunch?

I think Pre-K and K children eat in their classrooms instead of in the dining room for lunch? Is lunch provided and is the menu the same? How does it work for these really young children (espcially picky eaters)?

Yes, they eat in the classrooms to minimize transition. They do always get a choice (sandwich vs. hot entree) and while the selections are the same as those in the dining room I think there are fewer choices (no salad bar, soup less than every day).

Pre-K eat in their classroom. They do get choices but towards the beginning of the school year I was dismayed to hear my DD was eating jelly sandwiches every day. However, as the Fall progressed she ate more and more of the other offerings and is now a very good eater. She eats a vegetable most days a school. I think the teachers had a plan; first make sure all children are used to the routine and are comfortable eating at school, then gently encourage more variety in their choices. For example, my dd told me that the teacher said, "now that it is getting colder, everyone should get some warm food in their tummies!" They are also encourage to have lots of colors on their plate.

My son is an extremely picky eater, and also started PreK as a jelly sandwich eater. Funny thing, though, about peer pressure. He saw other kids enjoying veggies (there is a hot veg every day), hummus, etc and began trying them, albeit fairly late in the year. He still eats PBJ most days, but I believe he makes more of an effort to try new things in the low pressure school environment than he does at family meals.

Salad bar is only for grades 1-3, and it is basically a reduced height version of a grown up salad bar. My older child (who is already eating in the dining room) brags about how the salad bar is for "kids in the grades" and my picky eater little one swears he can't wait to try the salad bar because of all the "big kid" associations.
