| Am wondering what high school(s) might be the best fit for our non-binary child. They are very proud of their LGBT identity and also have mild dyslexia and lots of anxiety about schoolwork generally. Need a place with lots of hand-holding and individual attention. Definitely no Sidwell or other pressure-cooker schools. Looking at Burke, and maybe Field. Where else? |
| St Andrews |
Um, no Catholic school can possibly claim to be LGBTQ+ friendly. |
| SSFS |
It's mildly episcopalian. |
Burke is great, although definitely an academic school too. Field is pretty chaotic or disorganized, with very junior teachers. Maybe not the best environment. GDS couldn't be better, but certainly demanding academics (although something of a range, and doesn't have to be a pressure cooker). |
Well, St. Andrews is not Catholic. The “Episcopalian” in its name leads me to believe it’s Episcopalian. |
| There are two St. Andrew's schools in Montgomery County. St. Andrew the Apostle in Wheaton is a Catholic elementary school and St. Andrew's Episcpal is in Potomac. |
| Maybe outside your geographic range, but Sandy Spring Friends. |
| The McLean School ( it’s not in McLean) |
| Second the recommendation for Burke. My LGBTQ kid thrived there and the school really meets kids where they are. |
| The Nora School in Silver Spring would probably be a good fit. |

Burgundy Farm, though not sure where you’re located or what grade your child is in. Last year the school formally adopted a progressive trans/non-binary policy, linked here:

ops asking about high schools though. |
Burke is a great choice. Best of luck, OP. |
