The 5th grade has moved as a school-wide cohort into virtual learning

I hope the parents are vaccinated!

Just the beginning.

Not surprising with no masks.

Masks were mandatory for this school...
Most of the schools in Fulton county had mask mandate, since start of the Monday...

What’s your point? A class had to quarantine so schools should not be in person?
Anonymous
Don’t worry. The CDC is already changing guidance about when kids have to isolate to be more in touch with reality of this virus to children and to keep kids in schools.

It means DL is very much on the table and if you think the rest of that Elementary School wasn't exposed as well I have a bridge to sell you.

IF every kid had a mask on then the CDC guidance is that they should still be in school. Only the kid testing positive should be quarantining.

An entire thread about 1 random grade in a random school in Georgia? Really ?

No, this was in Cobb county. No manditory masks.

I’m sure others were exposed and that’s just what will happen going forward. We have to learn to live with covid just like any other contagious disease or respiratory virus. Children need to be in school.

No mandatory masks and vaccination rates in Georgia are low, plus people aren't wearing masks other places either. Of course they are running into problems with spread, especially with Delta.

I am tired of people pointing to problems in places like this and not providing the context. I keep hearing parents in DC say things like "Delta is killing kids in Louisiana" without any understanding of context. Otherwise it would be like "Delta, in combination with poverty, a high number of uninsured, poor access to healthcare, low vaccination rates, and an anti-mask and anti-mitigation culture is seriously endangering the lives of children in Louisiana." Context matters.

You think Delta won't affect rich kids in heavily insured neighborhoods with a hospital down the street and parents who are vaccinated?

They'll just be quarantined or hospitalized with the best care. Doesn't change the fact that a highly contagious aerosolized virus does not discriminate.

Yes, the entire course of this pandemic has shown socioeconomic disparities.
