Daycare requiring my 1 year old to wear a mask coming in

Anonymous
My baby is 15 months and will be starting daycare soon. One of the requirements is for the person dropping/picking her off/up to wear a mask (understandable) and that baby wears a mask coming in too. Baby would not wear a mask during the day. I think that part is kind of rediculous. Why is a mask needed just to walk in plus my baby is only 15 months. She is not gonna keep mask on even if its for less than 5 minutes.

Sorry I'm just annoyed.

I think that sounds like a good opportunity to practice a skill for just a couple minutes each day.

Can you put them in the stroller and throw a blanket over it like you did when they were tiny? They are covered up and no one can see if they have a mask on.

This is all dependent on you’re allowed in the center.

CDC says under 2 should not wear masks? I have never heard of any context where this is required because it contradicts the CDC guidance.

Incredibly silly but at this point, whatever keeps daycares open is (mostly) fine by me. As long as no closures.

My baby starts at 15 months this fall. No mask required. That’s ridiculous. My DD has worn one successfully all last school year no problem. But she was 3!

This is crazy. I would push back. The CDC is very clear about this "Do NOT put on children younger than 2 years old"

+1. Where is this daycare located? I would call licensing honestly.

I can imagine it is to maintain integrity on cohorts not mixing in the lobby/hallway/etc?

If the daycare is not aware or choosing to ignore CDC guidelines what else are they doing? That would be my concern.

Yeah, I would definitely question this. At our daycare any child 2 or over needs to wear a mask, but the daycare also realizes younger kids might not always be compliant, and they're OK with that. I do agree with PP that you should start acclimating your child. We started at 18 months just playing with her and letting her play with the masks. I foresee masks being in our future for quite some time.

this sounds like a good opportunity for a baby to suffocate, and an even better opportunity to find a new daycare. asap.

Definitely call them. Not advised for that age.

The daycare is wrong and misinterpreting the mask requirement. No masks for under 2. Ever.

This is not a daycare where I would want to leave my child. They clearly are not following very clear guidance from the CDC and pediatricians.
