| My mom, a professional driver of over 40 yrs with no issues driving almost got side swiped by a speeding driver. I am a baby driver about to get my dl. I want a safe car with backup cameras that is a mini suv of suv. Any recommendations? |
| Definitely Tesla. Nothing is safer. Nothing. |
Have to provide some more info about budget, requirements in order to get useful replies. |
Sure, buy your first time driver a $40K+ car that has shaky build quality and can go 0-60 in 5 seconds. SMH. |
| Subaru Forester or outback. |
This is what we plan to get my teenager once she has a permit. A 10-year-old one is about $8-10 grand right now. |
...and catches fire every now and then...
|
| Honda HR-V. |
| Subaru Crosstrek. It's a small crossover. The safety in Subaru is industry leading and it comes standard in all models. Insurance is cheap with a Subaru because the car itself can avoid accidents for you. |
If you need the car to avoid accidents for you, you probably shouldn’t be driving. |
| Honda CR-V- not a new one |
+1 I’m buying one next year with the plans to hand it to my child in 5 years |
| I have a 2019 Subaru Forester with all the safety features - it will be the car DS will use when he starts driving next year. I see the safety features as additional precautionary supports. |
|
Our new driver got the oldest car in our "fleet": a 16 year old hatchback with over 220k miles on it.
If you've got the money, buy as much safety as you can. |

Subaru, maybe forrester or outback wagon. I look for rear/blind spot visibility. I cant stand small SUVS that cover most of the corner panel in the back so you have major blind spots.
If the side mirror of a car has one of those added circle mirrors on it, I run. That means the blind spot is real bad. |
