Swimming Rockville Stroke and Turn VS JFD Strokes clinic

Hello,

I want to enroll my 8 year old daughter to a swim strokes clinic. She knows all the strokes but needs technique, endurance and swim time improvement. I checked online and I see RMSC provides their own stroke and turns clinic (Montgomery strokes and turns). They have it at county level and city level. I see there are still slots open for Rockville stroke and turn clinics (city level). Does anyone have any experience with Rockville stroke and turn clinic? How are they compared to other private stroke clinics like JFD?

Thank you.

The Stroke and turn are fine but not sure about Rockville but other locations raised the price and not worth it at the new price.

My kid did both (admittedly about 7-8 years ago) and JFD was definitely better. The county clinic at KSAC was okay but DC never became proficient at breaststroke or fly and the coaches seemed not very nice or engaged. You may get yardage in but probably not much technique work. Obviously things could have changed since our experience. You may also want to look into Fins. We and other kids at our summer pool had a good experience there and got decent stroke instruction especially compared with the county clinic. And they were responsive when we had questions. Our kid did 2X/week at Fins because the sessions are fairly short (45 minutes?). We eventually moved on to competitive year-round swim.

Sorry -- I just realized you specifically asked about the Rockville stroke and turn clinic not MoCo clinics. I can't speak to that site but my instinct based on our overall experience with swimming is that private is likely better but it depends on what you want to pay and how interested in swimming your kid is.

I am also looking into year round swimming. When you say you eventually moved on to competitive year-round swim, what program did you go with? Is JFD not considered competitive?

PP here. JFD has a competitive team but also has a stroke clinic and (for younger kids) lessons. Only the team does meets and that's what I mean by competitive. The stroke clinic is not competitive in the sense that those kids don't do meets. My kid did a JFD stroke clinic for a year which was fine and later moved on to a competitive team -- RMSC (but didn't stay there for various reasons). This board has a bunch of threads on various competitive teams so do a search if you're interested in that later. It's likely too late to do a competitive team for this upcoming season. Tryouts are usually anywhere from May to July. You should still be able to get into a stroke clinic now but those start soon.
