We're considering moving to VA where there is half-day kindergarten (I think 9am-noon). I know this is pretty unusual nowadays as most kids are in school for a full day. I'm a SAHM so childcare isn't an issue but I want to make sure my DS is well-prepared for first grade. Would love to hear feedback, especially from parents whose kids are/have been in half-day K. Thanks! |
I think it actually benefitted my child, she was less tired and learned a lot in the time she was there.
First has been fine, she is doing really well. I think there may be less playtime and recess in a half day, otherwise the content is pretty much the same. Unless you move, your child will go into first with the same 1/2 day prep as everyone else. |
If your child is going to first grade at the same school, the K program will prepare them for it. If you put them in half day program at a church preschool, don't be surprised if the public school asked your child to repeat their K class esp if they are a boy and have a summer bday. |
