Night Nanny Mask?

Anonymous
Thoughts on asking a night nanny to wear a mask overnight? It can’t be comfortable, but our pediatrician recommended it given Delta and the spike in RSV.

Yeah, it’s fine. For a day nanny I would say no because the baby needs to see your mouth more but for a night nanny, it’s fine.

You should mask up around her too. And get a fan for the baby’s room.

I think that's a reasonable request, but make sure that you tell candidates during the interview process because it may be a deal breaker for some.

It's perfectly comfortable. Many professionals wear them all day, doing far more strenuous work than feeding/changing/rocking babies.
And it's a perfectly reasonable request. Just be upfront!

I wouldn't mask overnight, but I would be happy to live in and not go anywhere in public.

Nanny and NCS here and I absolutely wear a KN95 to all clients’ homes unless it is a 24-hour gig and we agreed to bubble (and I trust the family to do so).

I wear one all day at work so this doesn’t seem unreasonable. Make sure they have a place to take a break, but when they are in the room with a family member, particularly the infant, they absolutely should.

What is a night nanny?

Completely reasonable and no problem.

Will you be wearing a mask while around your newborn every hour? Not sure why you are requiring a fully vaccinated night nurse to wear a mask. I have many friends who have hired NCS over the last 6 months and none of them required that. Seems odd.

Nice try but doesn't work like that. I'm a fully vaccinated teacher and we have to mask up, vaccinated or not. Shouldn't be an issue for others.

Ok and? Not sure what you are trying to get at.

If the night nurse is fully vaccinated, I fail to understand why they’d want her to wear a mask all night long.

For the same reason nurses in the hospital wear masks all shift - to prevent the spread of illness to the infant. Seriously, it’s not hard to understand.

Like any other gig, as long as you are upfront with your job requirements to the candidates, its fine.

Totally fine.
