How much does an APS kindergarten assistant make? I’m considering switching from
A Mcps paraeducator to a kindergarten assistant

Should be public info, found somewhere

Look on the APS pay scale. I remember MCPS making more but they may have changed.

I have worked as a Pre-K assistant and occasionally filled in in K, what are your questions?

How much did you make hourly without a degree and did you have to cover lunches/recess or specials?

There might be some variation by school but from what I’ve seen Kindergarten assistants attend all specials and usually a short time at recess. They eat lunch when the kids do. Pre-k assistants cover lunch and recess with a rotating lunch.
I have a BA+ my current rate is $29.97/hour. Though the job doesn’t require it I’d say it’s pretty hard to get the job without a degree. Kindergarten Assistant jobs are quite desirable and usually filled by internal candidates. It’s easier to get hired as a special education assistant.

If you're an assistant with either Pre-K or K, you can expect to be spending a lot of time with the kids - at specials, lunch, recess, etc etc.

Yes, you will get your 35 minute lunch but will be with the students the rest of the day.
