Does anyone know what extended day after school will look like this year? I suspect the potential covid exposure and subsequent quarantine won't be worth using it, but curious if anyone knows if they'll be cohorting in any way. |
I don't think we have any information yet. With elementary schools having early release days at least once a month, I find that alone to be worth most of the price of extended day.
Also, I wouldn't assume there will be a ton of quarantines? We had zero exposures during hybrid last year. I realize this year will have a LOT more kids in the building at a time, but it seems many schools were able to operate really well last year without endless shutdowns. Kids just don't spread it as much as adults. |
I also don't know how they will consider "close contacts" for extended day. In some schools, extended day is a fourth of the school. You can't pull out a fourth of the school just because. Its so unstructured and so much of it is outside -- I'm not sure if extended day will be considered like time the cafeteria where even though you were exposed you don't have to quarantine, or if it'll be different. They don't keep track of what kids are where so I'm not sure how contact tracing would work. |
OP here, all good points. I have no idea what to expect with covid and close contacts. No issues last spring with us either, but kids were distanced and they won't be this fall. But seems that close contact definition might be different for fall too.
I'll keep the spot and just wait for more information. I don't see a waitlist/capacity table like they've previously had, so have no idea how easy it would be to get back in. |
The extended day registration info as of 7/23 was posted. Most schools had capacity at that point. Cardinal was the only one maxed out already.

Just got my bill for extended day for Sept. (we're new to APS). I'm surprised there's no way to make a payment directly from my bank account. I either have to mail or drop off a check or pay with credit card, for which they will charge a fee. What year is this? |
Thank you this is really helpful. Think I’ll drop our spot for now. |
You can pay through myschoolbucks. Its the same way you pay for lunch -- there's an option to add extended day. |
Right, but it says it still charges a fee. Fees add up over a year. |
Does your bank have a bill pay feature? I can schedule it to send checks automatically every month so I don’t have to think about it. |
I have not looked into this option, but I'm intrigued! Thanks for the idea! |
Yes, thank you. This tipped me towards keeping my spot. |
Do the annual option for my school bucks. It was $13.70 in 2020, which isn't too bad |
