Expectant and Postpartum Moms
I'm 35.5 weeks and out of nowhere had elevated BP this morning. They checked it 2x and it was 140/90 both times. No protein in my urine (which I breathed a sigh of relief about). Has anyone else had this?
Yes. I had it with both of my pregnancies around 37 weeks. Both times, the docs (two different docs) told me to take it easy and they had me come back a few days later to check my bp again. Still elevated for the second check, but docs still weren't too concerned. I delivered both babies just fine and my bp was normal immediately after both deliveries.
17:17 - THANK YOU for responding. I feel better hearing a successful outcome like yours. Docs didn't seem too concerned - same thing, take it easy, etc. I'll be in the office next week for another check-up. Of course - even though OB wasn't concerned - I am... !
You could get a home BP monitor and check it yourself once or twice a day. Try not to become obessive about it and check every hour. If you see 140/90 or higher readings lay down for a few minutes and then take it while resting. If it will not come down call your doctor.

I was actually going to post something similar since I'm wondering how high BP has to be without protein before doctors get concerned. My BP has been labile (up and then down) since 36 weeks. I'm 39 weeks now and my BP was 150/88 and only came down to 140/80 at the end of the appointment-- my doctor wasn't concerned, even given my history of PE (mild) in my last pregnancy. (I haven't had any protein in this pregnancy.) I, however, am counting down the days until my induction on Tuesday since I'M not comfortable w/ my numbers.
Anyway, sometimes elevated pressure develops into PE, sometimes not. Regardless, it's not time to worry yet! Your doctors will keep an eye on you to make sure everything turns out okay. Good thing is, you are close to term so if things start to turn funky, they'll just induce you. In the meantime, keep an eye out for symptoms such as headaches, visual disturbances, nausea, increase in swelling, etc. and don't be hesitant to call your doctor. Lastly, and most importantly, keep your fingers crossed that your BP reading was just a fluke!
