Hoping this is an okay place to post this, but we're having a little family birthday celebration for our daughter who is turning 1, and she LOVES doggies. We'd love to invite any neighborhood dogs who are out and about (and amenable to meeting a likely squealing, but very gentle, little girl) to come say hi and get a treat from us!
We'll be at the tables outside the 4000 Tunlaw pool (visible from 39th St NW) from 6:30-7pm this Friday, July 30. Hope to meet you and your Good Boys/Good Girls! |
| This is adorable. |
| Love this! I hope all of D.C. turns out with their doggies (and there are soooooooooooo many) for your birthday party. |
| So cute! And Happy Birthday! |
| You should also post this on your local nextdoor list serve. I’m sure you’ll get lots of doggy friends. Happy birthday to your daughter! |
Thanks everyone! I'd love to post on NextDoor but unfortunately I didn't realize how long the verification process took to change your address (we recently moved) and I'm stuck waiting for a postcard in the mail.

Big no-no. You don’t know how strange dogs respond to a 1 year old, they don’t know and their owners don’t know. You might end up with disfigurement in a highly excitable, multi-dog, environment.
Very bad idea. |
| Thanks for your feedback. |
There is always one.

| PleAse don’t encourage people to bring their dogs to poop on the grounds of 4000 tunlaw. It is infuriating that it is a no dog building and yet all the selfish stupid dog owners in Glover park and wesley heights feel entitled to use it as their dogs’ bathroom. |
| So sweet. Happy Birthday! |
Because I know what nice dogs can do in unfamiliar environments when they feel excited. |

OP here. Thank you to all who were kind.
We had one dog come to the birthday party (a very sweet shih tsu named Murphy!), and my daughter had a wonderful birthday. To the person who was concerned she would get disfigured, I hope this helps you sleep better. I appreciate that your concern probably came from a good place, but I wasn't planning to allow my infant to interact any dog without sufficient adult human precaution exercised on both sides. I promise I'm not an idiot. To the person who apparently has rage issues about dog poop, I hate to break it to you, but there are absolutely dogs living in 4000 Tunlaw, lol. I'm also not sure why you are on this forum if you have so much vitriol towards dog owners. If you two need any good yoga recommendations, let me know!

NP it’s good that only one dog showed up. OP it really is beyond irresponsible to invite lots of unknown dogs to a 1 year old’s birthday. Luckily the dog owners in your area are more knowledgeable than you.
Dogs behave differently with other dogs around. Even without this, it was a bad idea. A one year old is far too young to interact with unknown dogs. If you seek this out you are putting both your kid and the dog into a bad situation. A nip from a dog can still be serious to a one year old. The poor dog will have a bite record. |
| We get it. |
